Exploring Norse, Celtic & Hellenistic Cosmology
How did the ancient Norse, Celtic, and Hellenistic peoples understand the universe and humanity's place within it? In this beginner-friendly class, we'll explore the Nine Worlds of Norse tradition and compare them with the cosmological ideas found in Celtic and Hellenistic cultures, examining both their shared themes and their unique perspectives.
Together, we'll discuss the structure of the Nine Worlds, the role of Yggdrasil, and how concepts of the Otherworld, the Underworld, and the divine appear across these traditions. While you'll discover fascinating similarities—such as sacred trees, journeys between worlds, and connections to the cycles of life and death—you'll also learn where these traditions differ in their mythology, worldview, and spiritual practices.
